Start with a brightly coloured ball of yarn (I used neon red and pink), and begin to wrap it around all four fingers.

Slide the whole thing off your hand, and tie the threaded yarn tightly. Cut through the loops all the way around.

Now you have a scruffy pom pom. It needs a trim, start to cut a rough square shape.

Gradually cut your pom pom into a neat square.

Hey thanks Helen! You deffo should try, they are super-satisfying to make. I actually have another set on the go to give to someone – I’m using two colours per pom pom. I’ll post a pic when they are done :) Would love to see yours if you make them!

So cute I’ve tried these and they don’t puff for some reason. Any tips?

Hi Emma – you could try using more yarn. The more you use the thicker and puffier they will be. I also gently patted the pom poms into shape as I was going to make sure I didn’t lose the square-ness. Hope that helps!!!
